(06-12) 18:08 PDT Sacramento, Calif. (AP) --

A federal judge on Monday rejected a lawsuit from an atheist who said having the phrase "In God We Trust" on U.S. coins and dollar bills violated his First Amendment rights.

U.S. District Judge Frank C. Damrell Jr. said the minted words amounted to a secular national slogan that did not trample on Michael Newdow's avowed religious views.

"In God We Trust" amounts to a *secular* slogan?

We live in Bizarro World... Goodbye, nice to see you! Gotta go, so Hello for now!

Almost as shameful and bereft of reason as the Dec. 2000 Supremes ruling that rubber-stamped Shrub's election theft.

If it involves a deity of any kind it cannot by definition be considered secular. Ecumenical, maybe, but not secular.

Wanna bet Damrell was appointed during the Reagan years? Or in the last few?

It's all been a slow-mo coup d'etat. (Cue the Boiling Frog Analogy. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boiling_frog)

I understand that the words "In God we Trust" (all others, cash only) minted on US coins is actually somewhat new...it only started in about 1935.

Before that time, coins were minted with the words "Mind your own business", by which I speculate they meant "Start and run your own business." Although a reminder not to be nosy is pretty helpful too.
