Wed, September 14, 2005 - 12:52 PMYeah. Unfortunately with the supreme court getting new bush nominees i'd be suprised if it sticks.... They'll find some reason to throw it out. -

Re: our hopes have been dashed before BUT...
Wed, September 14, 2005 - 1:30 PMLegally, morally and ethically, we're in the right on this one, and have been for 50 years. They don't need to find a reason, they didn't find one last time. All they found, IIRC, is that the presence of "Under God" was not "overly burdensome."
I wonder how they'd enjoy reciting a pledge of allegience that had the worlds "in a godless world" in it instead. Let them see how burdensome it is. -

Re: our hopes have been dashed before BUT...
Thu, September 15, 2005 - 1:59 AMI've been talking to a friend about this. I finally asked him how he would feel if it said under allah, gaia, or satan? He didn't like those very much. "So why should your deity get preferential treatment?"

Re: our hopes have been dashed before BUT...
Sun, September 18, 2005 - 2:12 PMThen we wouldn't be pledging allegiance to organizations that can Make Money off our obedience, we'd be pledging allegiance to a set of ideals and foundational legal principles, and we'd be motivated to examine those principles carefully. And maybe pass the ERA, or an amendment with language as egalitarian as the U.N. Declaration of Human Rights.
Then maybe we'd be interested in giving teeth to that Declaration, as well as our Constitution. And in watching a little more carefully for people who figured their highest calling was gaming the system.
What a wonderful world it would be.
Yes, I'm a bitter idealist. -_-
